ST Electronics Launches Next-Gen Connected Bus Stop at CommunicAsia2016
A Game Changer with Connected Bus and Smart Analytics
Singapore, 30 May 2016 — In support of Singapore’s Smart Mobility 2030 initiative, Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) will be launching its Next-Gen Connected Bus Stop that harnesses big-data analytics to collect and analyse ‘live’ data at bus stops and on buses to benefit commuters, transport service providers and transport agencies at this year’s CommunicAsia2016.
“ST Electronics has deep knowledge of transportation challenges faced by cities, having completed turnkey transportation projects in Asia, Middle East, Europe, North and Latin America. We are well-positioned, with a suite of innovative transportation solutions, to help Singapore realise our Smart Nation objectives. This includes our latest smart bus solution which can provide for a more seamless and enjoyable public transport experience for commuters whilst helping bus operators provide improved service quality and achieve better operational efficiency. It is a win-win for all,” said Mr Lee Fook Sun, Deputy CEO & President, Defence Business of ST Engineering and President of ST Electronics.
Enhancing Commuter Experience
ST Electronics has designed a suite of smart bus solutions for urban commuters that extend situational awareness to every touch-point by providing useful public transport and traffic information, advanced route planning and other value-added services to enhance commuters’ travel experience on public transportation. Commuters can also gain access to useful information through mobile apps and passenger displays available at the bus stops for quick response.
With the use of big-data analytics, the Next-Gen Connected Bus Stop leverages a myriad of smart sensors, smart phones and gateways, to capture wide-ranging data that includes the number of passengers at the bus stops (including predicting the intended bus service) and 2 of 3 on the buses plying the roads. Using smart analytics, the data is analysed at a Centralised Operations and Analytics Centre to generate insights and predictive trends on commuters’ travel behaviour for simulation and planning for transport operators to review and act upon.
This real-time information can also be further used with other traffic information sources to better predict and plan public transport schedules and enhance processes to meet the travel patterns of commuters as well as ensuring bus utilisation is optimised at all times.
Bus stops will also no longer be just a waiting point for commuters. Through the Connected Commuter Platform at the Next-Gen Connected Bus Stop, commuters can obtain the latest bus arrival time and bus capacity of the next bus and make use of a multi-modal journey planner to make better travel decisions. Wi-Fi services can be made available for commuters to access online services and entertainment programmes seamlessly between the bus stops and on the buses. They can also enjoy advanced trip planning services such as alternative route options in the event of changes in traffic conditions which may affect their original travel plans.
Through the Interactive Traveller Terminal (ITT), commuters can also access other valueadded services such as ticket purchase, card value top-ups, journey planning and even information on places of interests in the vicinity of the bus stops. Public transport operators can also remotely manage a higher volume of commuter enquiries per operator as commuters can conveniently call for the operator through the phone service available at the ITT.
Thus, commuters will be able to enjoy a commuting experience that is time-efficient, productive and dynamic.
Improving Operational Efficiency
The Next-Gen Connected Bus Stop is designed to help operators optimise operational efficiency and resource utilisation with smart analytics as well as maintain high quality of services to commuters. It can work in sync with the current Intelligent Bus Fleet Management System for Connected Bus, which provides a unified solution for operations control, fleet management, passenger information and business management for transport operators.
In addition to mobility solutions, ST Electronics will also be showcasing our newest smart solutions in Safety and Security, Environment including TeLEOS-1, Edutainment and Global Connectivity.
More detailed information on these solutions can be found in the factsheet. Come visit us at the ST Electronics Booth 1N3-01 at CommunicAsia2016 located at Level 1 of Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre from 31 May to 3 June 2016.
